Escape the bustle at this boutique eco-resort, which has a handful of bespoke villas, a pretty beachside setting and authentic Thai feel.
You can barely see the rooftops for the trees at Koh Jum Beach Villas, an intimate hideaway on a scenic, beach-lined stretch of Koh Jum’s relatively undeveloped coastline. Nestled into the lush tropical gardens, there are just 27 spacious villas, all individually designed and decorated, ranging from one to five bedrooms. You can soak up the views across the marine park from the shaded terrace or four-poster bed or snooze by your private pool (if you have one). It’s a perfect place to recharge and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures: relaxed farm-to-fork meals, sunset cocktails on the beach and maybe a stroll to the local village or a wildlife-spotting kayak trip along the shoreline.
Why we love Koh Jum Beach Villas
-
It’s smothered in greenery in a tranquil corner of an already tranquil island, so if you’re looking for peace and quiet, you’ll find it here
-
Restful isn’t the same as dull, with adventures such as island-hopping, sea fishing, mountain hikes and one-to-one cooking classes on offer
-
No two villas are the same in layout or decoration, so they feel more like private seaside homes than part of a beach resort
-
Thanks to a focus on local, seasonal and often organic ingredients, the food is deliciously super-fresh and bursting with flavour
Rooms
The 27 spacious villas, ranging from one to five bedrooms, are all different and feature natural materials such as wood, bamboo and stone and a scattering of Thai art and antique furniture. Seconds from the sand, the One Bedroom Beachfront Villa is ideal for two, while the One Bedroom Beachfront Pool Villa has, as the name suggests, an inviting and good-sized private pool. Families will appreciate the larger options such as the secluded Two Bedroom Villa, which has a master bedroom and a king-sized bed in the open-plan living area, or the Two Bedroom Pool Villa with two en-suite bedrooms and a private pool. There's also a collection of three and four bedroom villas, some set by the beach and others in the tropical gardens, which can sleep between six and 10 and great for a multi-generational family or group of friends.
Facilities
The restaurant and bar make the most of local seasonal produce, with international favourites, Thai dishes and daily themed specials providing plenty of variety. Elevate your evening one pour at a time with a visit to the Wine Room. Some evenings don't need a plan, just a place and the perfect spot is the beachside food truck, Beach Bites. It's casual, tatsty and toally unhurried, just how island dining should be.
Restaurant
The restaurant is the venue for farm-to-table breakfast (buffet or à la carte depending on the number of guests), lunch and dinner, starring fresh local ingredients from the organic garden and local fishermen.
Beach Bites (seasonal and not open Wednesdays)
Beachside food truck where good vibes and great snacks rule the shorelines. Think kebab wraps, dim sum, nachos, hot dogs and warm pita pockets – sink into the beanbag and let the waves be your soundtrack. \
Bar
Pull up a chair in the rustic bar to enjoy artisan coffee, ice cream or a signature cocktail with views of the beach and the Phi Phi islands.
Wine Room
Step into the wine room, where over 200 bottles are waiting to flirt with your tastebuds. Browse like you're in a candy shop for grown-ups or join a sommelier for a tasting.
Be sure to be in the bar at 5pm for the arrival of the superb frozen margaritas – the perfect accompaniment to sunset watching.
What's Included
Breakfast at the restaurant
Here, wellness comes with a breezy island smile. Think slow mornings stretching at the yoga shala, helping your body to unwind and hit reset button in your mind. When it's time to melt into full relaxation mode, the resort's therapists work their magic with traditional Thai massage designed to untangle even the sneakiest knots. You can even organise to have a massage in the comfort of your own villa. Fitness fans can also use the small gym.
Rent a bicycle to pedal trails through the jungle, join a guided trek or arrange a private Muay Thai lesson.
The main swimming pool overlooks the beach, where there are kayaks and paddleboards on offer. If you want to snorkel, there are pristine sites on nearby islands, easily accessible on a private boat trip; dive trips can be arranged via Lanta Divers. Other water-based guided activities include fishing trips and kayak tours through the wildlife-rich mangroves.
A host of eco-friendly policies has earned the resort Travelife Gold certification. These include everything from the building of the villas, designed to reduce the use of air-conditioning, through providing guests with natural mosquito coils and repellent, to an in-house bottling plant for drinking water.
